Press Release

How will the Mayor ensure culture weathers the funding storm?
10-2-2010   084

With spending being squeezed across the public sector, how will the Mayor maintain London’s position as one of Europe’s leading cultural centres?

Tomorrow, Munira Mirza, the Mayor’s Arts and Culture Advisor, will appear before the London Assembly’s Economic Development, Culture, Sport and Tourism (EDCST) Committee to discuss the draft Cultural Strategy: 2012 and Beyond.

Committee Members will question her on a range of issues, including:
What cultural provision is the Mayor proposing for outer London? How will the Mayor widen access to the arts? And how will he ensure that culture plays a part in the 2012 Games and its permanent legacy?

Munira Mirza will be joined by the following guests:

• Iwona Blazwick, Director of the Whitechapel Art Gallery;
• Uanu Seshmi, Director, From Boyhood to Manhood Foundation;

The EDCST Committee meeting will take place on Thursday 11 February from 10am in Committee Room 5 at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).   Media and members of the public are invited to attend.   The meeting can also be viewed via webcast at: http://www.london.gov.uk/assembly/webcasts.jsp
