Designs on London

Good design is central to all the objectives of this plan. It is a tool for helping to accommodate London's growth within its boundaries (Objective 1).

Particularly given its strong growth, very high standards of design are needed to make London a better city to live in and one which is healthier, more attractive and green (Objectives 2 and 6).

There is a strong link between good design and the attraction to economic investors to help create a prosperous city (Objective 3). Areas of social exclusion are usually associated with poor, hostile environments and far better, more inclusive design must form part of their regeneration (Objective 4).

Excellence in design can also make higher densities a source of better, more varied and more sustainable environment in places of high accessibility and reduce the need to travel (Objective 5).
