Register of Members' Interests

Explanation of Register Categories

The following is explanatory text given to Members when they complete their entry for the Register of Interests.

Financial interests

1(a) Any job or business (other than being the Mayor, an Assembly Member or an Independent Member of the GLA Standards Committee) carried out by the Member.

1(b) The name of the employer, or company (if the Member is a paid Director), or firm in which the Member is a partner.

1(c) The names of any person (other than the GLA or another local authority) who has helped the Member with expenses during their election or as a Member of the GLA (e.g. union sponsorship, donations from companies).

1(d) The names of any corporate bodies in London in which the Member has a beneficial interest in a type of share (i.e. they own or are entitled to the proceeds of those shares) with a face value of more than Ł25,000 or 1% of the total amount invested in that corporation by its shareholders.

1(e) A description of any contract between the GLA and the Member, or between the GLA any firm in which they are a partner, or any company in which they are a paid Director.

1(f) The address (or description) of any land in which the member has a beneficial interest (i.e. they own the land, or they rent or are entitled to the proceeds of that land under a trust). Please note that although Members are required (except in exceptional circumstances) to include their home addresses (if they own their own home) in the Register of interests, the GLA does not include the home addresses of Members on the GLA web site. The web entry will therefore only include the Members borough of residence.

1(g) The address (or description) of any land in London leased from the GLA, by the Member of any firm the Member is a partner in, or any company they are a paid Director of.

1(h) The address (or description) of any land in London licensed by the Member (either alone or jointly with others) for 28 days or more.

Other interests

2(a) Any organisation the Member is a member of, or in which they hold a position of control or management, and to which they were appointed or nominated by the GLA (either Mayor or Assembly) (e.g. functional bodies but not committees of the Assembly)

2(b) Any public authorities or organisations that deliver public services the Member is a member of, or in which they hold a position of control or management, (e.g. health authority/Primary Care Trust, Higher/further education college)

2(c) Any charitable companies, charities or industrial and provident societies the Member is a member of, or in which they hold a position of control or management.

2(d) Any bodies whose principal purposes include the influence of public opinion or policy the Member is a member of, or in which they hold a position of control or management (e.g. political parties)

2(e) Any professional association or trade union the Member is a member of, or in which they hold a position of control or management (e.g. political parties)
